Law of Attraction (LOA)

What is the Law of Attraction?

The Universal Law of Attraction (or "LOA") deals with energy. We know that everything, including ourselves, is comprised of matter, and matter is comprised of energy. This same energy that makes up everything around us makes up our inner consciousness as well. It flows through our bodies and radiates out into the Universe, flowing over all that we come into contact with.

The Universal Law of Attraction states that like energy attracts like energy. Energy can be considered in the form of vibrations. Vibrations resonate with the same vibration. Think of using a tuning fork to tune a piano. If that image does not work for you, consider energy to be wave frequencies. When you are looking for a particular radio station, you must tune into the frequency that the station you desire is on, otherwise you may get static or something you were not intending to listen too.

The LOA states that the energy that I embody is the energy that I will attract into my life. What an interesting idea --Òthe energy that I embody.Ó What does that mean? What I have come to understand is this: The energy that I embody is determined by the feelings and emotions that I experience at any given time. (These feelings and emotions are energy). I also need to recognize that I am also experiencing a pattern of thoughts and beliefs that effect how I experience these feelings and identify them as certain emotions.

Before I precede any further on this, let me clarify what I mean by the terms "feeling" and "emotion" and thoughts and beliefs. Feeling is the physical sensation of energy moving throughout your body. Emotion is that same energy identified with a mental state. For example, you are watching television and a Hallmark commercial comes on. Suddenly a feeling begins to rise inside you and you find yourself tearing up. Your mind might automatically identify this feeling as the emotion of Sadness.

Thoughts become beliefs when my mind identifies them as being "true". Thoughts can appear out of now where. Try to meditate and empty your mind of thoughts and you will realize just how randomly they appear. Your mind processes thousands of thoughts a day. You are only aware of those that your mind identifies as true, or having some pertinence to who you believe yourself to be. Your thoughts become beliefs, and your beliefs make up your stories. What you believe becomes the story you developed around whom you are and how you experience the world.

My Feeling /emotions are the actual energy that is coursing through my body. Typically, throughout my day I may experience an energy making itself known in my body. As soon as I notice this energy rising, my mind automatically wants to identify the energy and label it. My mind likes to keep its illusion of control, and immediately attaches a story to the rising energy that makes it fit into the reality that my mind has created for me. This unconscious process keeps everything neat and tidy so that my mind can stick to the story that it has developed about who I have become over the course of my development. However this unconscious process also eliminates the opportunity to actually experience in the present moment what that energy really is. Perhaps our emotional reaction to the Hallmark commercial is not sadness, but a deep longing for the connection depicted in the commercial. Imagine if we were able to allow ourselves to be present with each feeling as it appeared in our bodies without attaching our same old stories to it! What would the end result be if we let those rising emotions flow up and out of ourselves?

It is important for each of us to realize that we each have our own unique story based on beliefs, experiences and ideas that shape the way we perceive our experiences in life. Our story acts as a filter through which we view all of our experiences and feelings. We become so good at identifying all our experiences through this filter, that we donÕt event think about it. It is automatic. We automatically react to the feelings rising up inside of us. Imagine how this state of reaction affects the type of energy that we embody -- what if I hold the belief that all strangers are dangerous? How would that affect the energy that I embody? One result could be that I am closed off and defensive. Every time I see someone I do not know I put up my guard and get ready to fight. This may protect me in some situations, but it also prevents me from meeting new people and making new friends. My defensiveness would cause others to be closed off and defensive as well. The energy that I am embodying is given right back to me. Sure, this series of events re-enforces my original belief, but it also is very limiting. Try to become aware of your thoughts and the feelings attached to them. Once you gain this awareness you are better able to consciously embody the energy you wish to receive.
